January 18, 2020 was the fourth anniversary of the National Women's March. There were major marches and rallies across the United Staters to support women. There was one here today in downtown Monterey, CA. Below are my photos from the march.

As we saw in my last post, some of the giant sequoias are thought to be as old as 2,000 years. They can reach a height of 325 feet and a diameter of 33 feet. They are truly magnificent.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park is located at the mid-elevation level of the western Sierra Nevada three miles north of Arnold off Highway 4. Although a mixed conifer forest, the giant sequoias dominate the ponderosa pines, sugar pines, incense cedars and white fir.
Some of the giant sequoias are thought to be as old as 2,000 years. They can reach a height of 325 feet and a diameter of 33 feet. These are the largest trees we've ever seen. The giant sequoias and the California (coast) redwoods are enormous trees that exist primarily in Northern California, Oregon and Washington. While they have similar characteristics, they are different species. This state park is a must see if you are in Northern California.

Award of Merit

Tonight was the opening of the 2019 Center for Photographic Art Members' Juried Exhibition. There were close to 1,150 images entered. Forty five images were selected by the jurors, Connie & Jerry Rosenthal, to hang in the gallery and an additional 45 selected for an online gallery. My image, Contemplation, was selected for the Online Gallery.

At the opening of the exhibition, awards were given to four of the in-gallery images and two awards of merit were given for the online gallery. I was given an Award of Merit for my image in the online gallery and a check for $100. I am very proud to have received this award.

You can view BOTH galleries at this link.

PATTERNS IN THE SAND

Patterns in the Sand

I entered several images into the 2020 Center for Photographic Art Members' Juried Exhibition. This year’s jurors, Ann Jastrab and Laura Sackett, reviewed over 1,300 images that were submitted from around the world and only 45 were selected to be displayed in the gallery.

I am proud to announce that my image, “Patterns in the Sand” was selected for the online gallery. To have one of my images selected by these jurors from over 1,300 to be part of a 90 image exhibition is a great honor.

The Center for Photographic Art will set up an online gallery of the 45 in-gallery images and the additional 45 online gallery images (which will include mine). You will be able to see all the images once the exhibit opens Saturday, April 18, 2020. I will add the link taking you to the online gallery here when it’s available, so check back at this page after April 18th. You are invited to attend the opening reception of the exhibit at the Center for Photographic Art gallery, Sunset Center, Carmel, CA. from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
