The Rainbow Eucalyptus tree has this beautifully colored bark. Patches of outer bark are shed annually at different times, showing the bright-green inner bark. This then darkens and matures to give blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones.
The photo was taken with a Canon EOS 40D, EF24-105mm f/4L lens, 1/60 sec at f/9.5, ISO 640 on SanDisk Extreme IV Digital Film.

Amazing shot, Marty! I would not have been able to guess what it was!
It is deceiving close up like this.
This is tree love.
Thanks Shari. We saw this tree in Kauai 5 years ago and I wanted to go back and see it again and get some close up shots of the bark and its amazing colors.
Marty, this is one of the best. It looks like a museum artwork.
Thanks Norm
Remarkable!
Would make a great print greatly enlarged.
Thanks Robin. I agree, it would look really great as a large print.
This is incredible! Looks like a Morris Louis painting and even better as it’s nature itself….beautiful!
Cool pix. Love to see a grove of trees with this appearance. The photo is like an piece of abstract art!
Wow that is real bark? It looks like it was painted!! So beautiful.
Thanks, it is real…
I love it! Yet another desktop picture for me to stare at every day. Bark? Seriously?
Yes that’s on a tree.
