As we approached the rim of Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, I saw this beautiful grove of Acacia trees with the crater floor in the background. I brought two camera bodies with me (so I didn’t have to change lenses from telephoto to wide angle in the dusty savannah). This photo, taken with my, now ancient, Canon EOS D60, EF17-40mm f/4L lens on Lexar Digital Film. It’s a single image processed as an HDR with Photomatix Pro.

The walls of the primary school we visited in Ngorongoro, Tanzania were painted with very vibrant, earth tone colors. I had a chance to photograph the children at the school and I’ll be posting some of those images over the coming weeks.

These zebra (and a few wildebeest) have come to a dried up watering hole in Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. While there were still other areas with water, many had dried due to a serious drought in 2009 when I shot this photo.

The photo was taken with a Canon EOS 40D, Sigma APO 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens, 1/250 sec at f/7.1, ISO 200 on SanDisk Extreme IV Digital Film and post-procesed with Nik Software Viveza 2.

Amboseli National Park is a beautiful 151 square mile area in Kenya that has been covered with intensive agriculture growing along a series of swamps. They are fed by the melting snow on Mount Kilimanjaro. The area is well known for the large number of elephants roaming free on the reserve. Sadly, there was a serious drought at the time of our visit which adversely affected the elephant and other wildlife populations. There was almost no snow cap on Mount Kilimanjaro and the land in Amboseli was very dry with dying vegetation.

The photo was taken with a Canon EOS 40D, Sigma APO 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens, 1/1250 sec at f/9, ISO 160 on SanDisk Extreme IV Digital Film.
