Yesterday I mentioned I would show you another Acacia Tree photo today. But, I realized that I had already posted it when I entered it in a contest (it’s another one of my top 5 for this trip). So, you can click here to see it and read the very interesting story on how that photo was taken.

Amboseli, Kenya is an area well know as a home for many elephants. We were there during a drought and the elephants and other animals were really suffering from the lack of water. It had a devastating effect on the vegetation that is the food for so many of them.

The photo was taken with a Canon EOS 40D, Sigma APO 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens, 1/400 sec at f/6.3, ISO 3200 on SanDisk Extreme IV Digital Film.

The Acacia Trees in East Africa really captivated me. I love their stature and shape. They have certainly been the subject of many Africa photographs taken at sunset, including one of mine (come back tomorrow for it). But I find them somehow magical, especially when they are standing alone.

The photo was taken with a Canon EOS 40D, EF17-40mm f/4L lens, 1/125 sec at f/4, ISO 250 on SanDisk Extreme IV Digital Film.

Some of the best parts of the savanna on the Masai Mara in Kenya were the zebra, the Acacia trees and the abundant honey-colored grasses that would dance with the wind. This photo captures the essence of all of them.

This photo was taken with a Canon EOS 40D, EF70-200mm f/4L IS lens + 1.4x tele-extender, 1/160 sec at f/13, ISO 200 on SanDisk Extreme IV Digital Film.

Another African animal seemingly as interested in us as we were in her. You can’t help but notice the long eyelashes on this female giraffe.
