Ashcroft Hotel – Ashcroft Ghost Town – Ashcroft, Colorado
Ashcroft, a Ghost Town, is 10 miles south of Aspen, Colorado and was originally known as Castle Forks City in 1880. It was a silver mining town and was renamed Ashcroft in 1882. By 1885, the town was the home to about 3,500 residents, six hotels and 20 saloons. The town was booming very quickly and , per Wikipedia, went bust also very quickly because the silver deposits turned out to be very shallow. In 1884, another rich silver deposit was located, but it was near Aspen and this proved to be the end for Ashcroft as residents began moving to Aspen.

The colors, the light and the shading in these photos are hauntingly beautiful. the whole effect is painterly.

Isolated and ominously beautiful . . . the hotel looks like one of those you check into but never check out of! Great texture and perspective on the wooden boards.
