Egg-Yolk Jellyfish

This very strange looking jellyfish was at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Egg-Yolk Jellyfish is a fairly large jellyfish with a bell that grows to 2 feet in diameter. It has a weak sting and  feeds mostly on smaller jellyfish.

Point Lobos State Reserve is three miles south of Carmel on Route 1. This location was one of Edward Weston’s favorite places to photograph. He is well known for his incredible series of seascapes and landscapes. After his death in 1958 his ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean on Pebbly Beach, later renamed Weston Beach.
