I decided to have some fun with Photoshop and the Topaz Simplify 3 and OnOne Software PhotoFrame 6 plugins. Lulu and Max (a Westi) used to play together at Sunset Park in Sedona. They were really good buddies.

Each Sunday from sunrise to sunset, a temporary memorial appears next to the world-famous pier in Santa Monica, California. Arlington West  is a project of Veterans For Peace. The memorial website describes Arlington West as a place “…to honor the fallen and wounded – to provide a place to grieve – to acknowledge the human cost of war – to encourage dialogue among people with varied points of view – to educate the public about the needs of those returning from war.”

Each white cross, crescent or star of David “…carefully positioned in the sand with a uniformity appropriate a memorial for this purpose, represents all American military personnel who’ve lost their lives in the US war and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.” Each red cross represents the loss of 10 military personnel.

This photo was taken December 30, 2007 with a Canon EOS 40D, EF17-40mm f/4L lens, 1/640 sec at f/13, ISO 320 on Lexar Digital Film.

Black and White Versus Color

I want to share the responses to my question on the Od Diner photo and which one you liked the best, black & white or color. Of the responses I got through the comment bubble and by email, 2:1 you liked the black and white version the best. Most of the comments in favor of the black and white version were centered around the age and deterioration of the building and that black and white fit the mood associated with it the best.

In case you missed seeing the photos, you can see the black and white version at this link, and the color version at this link.
Thanks to those who left comments or sent emails with your choice and why.

This photograph was taken in Pebble Beach about an hour before sunset. The formation of the clouds looked like a giant bird in flight to me.
