On our trip to Africa, we passed by this wall on a drive through Arusha, Tanzania. The message painted on it was simple and beautiful. The photo of the child was taken in a Masai village in Kenya. Together, they speak to the need to help the millions of people who are facing a hunger crisis in East Africa and are in desperate need of help. See below for an easy way you can help.

The following information is taken from the CNN website at this link:

“UNICEF is asking for $31.8 million over the next three months for relief efforts. The money will help provide therapeutic treatment for women and children with severe malnutrition, access to clean drinking water and vaccinations to prevent deadly diseases like measles and polio.

“The earlier we act, the more children we can save. Americans are a generous people, and a little goes a long way — just $10 can feed a child for 10 days,” said Caryl Stern, president of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

To help UNICEF’s efforts, text “FOOD” to 864233 to donate $10 from the United States or visit the website. Follow this link to make a donation from other countries around the world.”

The Masai woman traditionally carries her baby swaddled to her back. She uses the end of the cloth wrapping the baby to swat the flies away from its face. The babies being carried this way seemed very comfortable and content to me.
