Koutoubia Mosque at Sunset

Koutoubia Mosque at Sunset, Marrakesh

The Koutoubia Mosque (also seen in the photo gallery on this earlier page) is the largest mosque in Marrakesh, located adjacent to the square. The minaret is 253 feet in height and was completed in the 12th century. Its name comes from the Arabic for “book” (koutoub), because there was originally a book market at its base. It’s design and structure were the inspiration for the Hassan Tower in Rabat.

This photo was taken with a Canon EOS 6D, EF24-105mm f/4L IS lens, 1/200 sec at f/10, ISO 640 captured on a Lexar 400x SDXC UHS-1 memory card.

  1. So beautiful! Seeing the light through sharply you see the design of the window and the beautiful pinnacle of the tower…..Wow!

  2. Beautiful shot … Love the light through the windows and the silhouette of the streetlights. Gorgeous mosque, can see the resemblance to the Hassan Tower we saw in Rabat.
