Mystical Point Lobos Tree

Mystical Point Lobos Tree

This dark and eerie looking tree is located in Point Lobos State Reserve just north of Big Sur, CA. In person, it’s only mildly eerie. (This is a good one to click on the photo to enlarge.)

According to the Point Lobos website, “The orange, velvety “stuff” especially noticeable on trees and rocks of the shadowed north-facing slopes is green algae. Its orange color comes from carotene, a pigment which also occurs in carrots. The plant does not harm the trees.” Click on the comment number bubble to leave a comment.

Photo taken with a Canon EOS 40D, EF17-40mm f/4L USM lens,  5 exposures at f/5, ISO 100 (tripod) on SanDisk Extreme IV Digital Film. Processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro.
