What Do You See in this Wave?

Wave Power BW

The surf was up and the waves were crashing onto the rocks off the coast by Pacific Grove. I processed this image in black and white and found the wave very interesting. I found myself being drawn into the wave visually. Click on the image to enlarge it and what do you see in this wave? The first location we hiked to on our last Point Lobos visit was alongside Weston Beach. The rocks there are smooth as the waves polish them. This photo was done at low tide and it exposed these beautiful rocks with their deep grooves, carved by the sea, which had become tide pools for many small sea creatures.

We went to Point Lobos yesterday with our friends Susan and Randy and had a wonderful hike and photo taking session. It was a magnificent day, sunny and warm. There was very little wind and the ocean was very clear and deep blue.

I started to work on my photos as soon as I got home. I spent some time shooting the waves hitting the rocks and used a 10-stop neutral density filter and long exposures to allow the water’s movement to blur. I’m still working on my technique but it sure is fun to experiment with it.

I came upon this Sea Lion asleep on the beach. At first, I was concerned that it might have been injured or was not alive, but, as I got closer, it let me know just how alive it was…

As the wind blows hard and rain threatens here on the Monterey Peninsula this morning, I thought of our trip to Hawaii and how nice it would be if we were sitting there now watching another Hawaiian sunrise, signaling the start of a warm and beautiful day. So here is another shot from that trip last October.
